Book of Common Prayer
Historic Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church welcomes you! Located in the Tremé neighborhood, we are a short drive to the French Quarter. Saint Luke’s is a diverse, welcoming congregation that invites all people to joyful worship, inclusive of age, skin color, gender expression, sexuality, nationality, and physical ability.
Our church comfortably allows for weddings up to 200 guests. The area in front of the altar rail, which has moveable seating in the choir area, can accommodate various sizes of wedding parties.
The Episcopal Church celebrates with you! Thank you for visiting us online. We hope to see you in person to experience Sunday worship at 10 AM if you are local. Arrangements can be made to meet with the priest to answer all of your questions, in person or online.
St. Luke's Episcopal has welcomed several gay clergy over the years, is an affirming congregation, and is available for same-sex couples to be married.
The priest looks forward to getting to know both of you as individuals and as a couple. All couples meet with the priest, at no cost, for premarital counseling over the course of several sessions. These meetings can be fulfilled in person if you are local and online if New Orleans is the destination for your wedding.
Our hope is that you feel welcomed and understood in preparing for marriage again.
As long as one of you in the couple has been baptized, whether in an Episcopal Church or another denomination, you may be married in the Episcopal Church.
The beautiful, traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer recommends one or more passages of Scripture be read. You may wish to include Holy Eucharist (Communion) during the Marriage liturgy (service).
Please read the Customary for questions like pricing and frequently asked questions.
Picture yourself walking down the center aisle as the organ music accompanies you. Floral decorations are allowed and recommended at the altar and on the ends of the pews. Feel free to ring the church bells as a newly married couple to celebrate as you head out the door; to the parish hall for your reception, or to the nearby French Quarter.
