Historic Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church welcomes you! Located in the Tremé neighborhood, we are a short drive to the French Quarter.
We are an easy stroll or second line over to the Free People of Color Museum and the Degas House on Esplanade Avenue.
Saint Luke’s is a diverse, welcoming congregation that invites all people to joyful worship, inclusive of age, skin color, gender expression, sexuality, nationality, and physical ability.
Our church comfortably allows for weddings up to 200 guests. The area in front of the altar rail, which has moveable seating in the choir area, can accommodate various sizes of wedding parties.
The Episcopal Church celebrates with you! Thank you for visiting us online. We hope to see you in person to experience Sunday worship at 10 AM if you are local. Arrangements can be made to meet with the priest to answer all of your questions, in person or online.
Book of Common Prayer
St. Luke's Episcopal has been served by several gay clergy over the years, is an affirming congregation, and is available for same-sex couples to be married.
The rector looks forward to getting to know both of you as individuals and as a couple. All couples meet with the rector, at no cost, for premarital counseling over the course of several sessions. These meetings can be fulfilled in person if you are local and online if New Orleans is the destination for your wedding.
If you have completed pre-marital counseling with another priest, the rector must determine that the couple is ready for marriage.
Our hope is that you feel welcomed and understood in preparing for marriage again. There are several prerequisites that must be fulfilled if either party has been divorced previously.
It is necessary that one of you in the couple has been baptized, whether in an Episcopal Church or another denomination, in order to be married in the Episcopal Church. Marriage is a Sacrament and is to be entered into reverently with much preparation.
A guest officiant or preacher may assist the rector in presiding over the wedding ceremony, under certain circumstances.
The beautiful, poetic language of the Book of Common Prayer recommends one or more passages of Scripture be read. You may wish to include Holy Eucharist (Communion) during the Marriage liturgy (service). Couples may not write their own vows or use any liturgy that is not authorized by the Episcopal Church.
Please read the Customary for questions like pricing and frequently asked questions.
Please reach out at least 6 months before your desired date to understand all that being married in an Episcopal Church entails.
The sanctuary is not available for rent for an officiant or pastor of another denomination to solely perform a wedding ceremony.
